Registered Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is a government-regulated health care practice. Registered Massage Therapists have either a 2- or 3-year diploma from a recognized massage therapy school. Only members of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario are permitted to use the title Massage Therapist or Registered Massage Therapist and use the letters MT or RMT after their names.

Massage therapists are experts in helping you with problems occurring in the soft tissue and joints of your body. After assessing your situation, a therapist treats and prevents physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints by manipulation that develops, maintains, rehabilitates or augments physical function, or relieves pain.

Massage therapists serve with integrity, and are professional health care providers committed to respecting their clients and putting their best interests first.

Problems treated and prevented by massage therapy

There are tremendous benefits to be achieved through regular massage therapy treatments from a Registered Massage Therapist. Whether your need is to have a moment of relaxation, reduce muscle tension or attain relief from chronic pain, a therapeutic massage can enhance your overall sense of emotional and physical well-being as well as your quality of life.

Massage therapy benefits people of all ages. While you can use it to treat an illness or injury, you can also consider it an important part of your health maintenance plan, because of its ability to reduce and eliminate pain, improve joint mobility, improve circulation, improve immune system functioning, increase lymphatic drainage, reduce depression and anxiety, reduce muscle tension, and increase body awareness.

Massage therapy can be used in the treatment of both acute and chronic stages of conditions, including:

• Anxiety & depression • Insomnia
• Asthma & Emphysema • Kyphosis & Scoliosis
• Back, Leg & Neck Pain • Multiple Sclerosis
• Cancer • Parkinson's Disease
